I am a big ball of emotions right now. I'm feeling just about every emotion that you can think of--and mostly for other people. People that I care about are going through some really horrible things, some really happy things, some confusing things, etc. I'm also personally feeling some angst about things in my life. I hope the cosmos settle down soon and let everyone be.
I really wish I could write about all these things, but some things are better left unsaid.

Oh Happy Day!
I am so very proud of Nora today. She has accomplished so much. I'm amazed!
First of all, she's been taking her time talking. She has had quite a few words, but she didn't always use them. She knew what you were saying, but didn't speak English much--just Nora-ese. In the last couple of weeks, she's had a word "explosion" (as Joe called it). We've really been impressed by the strides she's made, but tonight really showed us how much she knows. She loves to read, so we were looking through one of her books just before bed. I asked her what the things were in the pictures and she knew and said all of them! I decided to take it a step further and ask her to name her body parts. She's been able to point at the right part for a while now, but she SAYS them now. That might not be much for parents of older kids or people without kids, but it is a huge achievement for us.
Just as impressive, she went potty on the potty chair for the very first time tonight. She's been showing a lot of interest in it, but this was the first time it was put into action. Needless to say, there was a lot of hugs, kisses, high fives, and dancing around at our house tonight.
Go Nora, go Nora, go, go, go Nora!

How Could You Not Love This Child?

Halloween 2008
Last year, we took Nora to the mall to trick-or-treat there. It was a good plan, since she was only a year old and not quite walking on her own yet. (I think it was cold, too). This year, we took her to our downtown Halloween "parade." The kids all walked around downtown and collected candy from the stores, then got to eat free hot dogs, chips and cookies. After that, we took her over to her great-grandma and great-grandpa Hoover's house. We visited with them for some time and then went on down the road. We also stopped at one of my co-worker's homes. She had a special bag made up for Nora. I was really impressed with the way Nora acted after she got used to all the people dressed strangely. She even went up to a few houses on her own. She had a great time--and so did I!
Here are some pictures of her in her costume. She was a flapper from the 1920's. My mom sewed the costume. I think she did a great job! I told her that she was commissioned for costumes from here on out!

Nora's 2nd Birthday
On the day of Nora's birthday, I took her and my grandparents out to the Rolling Hills Zoo. She always loves to go to the zoo! We also went into town to see Joe at the fire station.

On Sunday, we had Nora's big birthday party. We had it at the park in our town and it was a big hit. We rented the Scout Building and grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. I made cupcakes (instead of a cake) and we had ice cream. Nora had a lot of little friends come and they all played together well. She got soooo many nice things. I think I'm going to have to thin some of her older toys out! Some of her gifts included: a tricycle, a table and chairs, a baby stroller and babies, and a Power Wheels Barbie Jeep.
Other than the typical "issues," (unfortunately) the day was a big success!!

Nora also had her 2-year checkup. We started with a new doctor, and so far, we love him. (Joe knows him from seeing him/working with him at the hospital). He wasn't concerned with her speech, especially since she is pretty advanced physically and socially.
Her 2 year stats are:
Height: 36 inches
Weight: 24 lbs, 9 oz (only up 4 lbs from a year ago)
Shirt size: 3T
Pants size: 3T
Shoe Size: 8
